After running into a friend from his troubled past, a Catholic boxer grapples with bitterness and resentment as he learns forgiveness.

25-year-old ex-convict, Enzo Cesare, has turned his life around; Finding purpose and community within his church and its reformation boxing league. The priest of this church, Father Marco, took Enzo under his wing at his lowest and developed into a father-figure for him. After winning a boxing match cash prize, Enzo is visited by Andrew, an old friend from his troubled past, seeking to settle a debt and claiming to have left his criminal life behind him. But Enzo was once betrayed by this man, and his resentment keeps him from lending him a hand. Over the course of several weeks, he sees that his old friend seems to have genuinely turned a new leaf. Enzo’s ego and morality stand at a crossroads as he struggles to decide whether to help his friend out of a rough patch or leave him behind as he once did to him all those years ago.

Saint ann Hamilton roman catholic church

At 101 years old, this building is rich with history. Built in the image of the Great Shrine of St. Anne in Beaupre, Quebec, the Gothic Revival design stands out against the cold grit of Steeltown. The interior is just as striking. Its soaring arched ceilings and towering stained-glass windows draw your eyes to the heavens every time you enter the building. Beautiful, hand-sculpted statues line the walls. The sanctuary houses a gorgeous marble altar where the original tabernacle sits in plain view of the entire congregation seated in their original, quarter-sewn oak pews.

mcgrory’s boxing club hamilton

Underneath the church, in the basemet, lies McGrory’s boxing club. A humble boxing ring sits in the middle of a room full of punching bags, dumbbells, speedbags, and other boxing training equipment. The walls and floor are made of concrete, and the ceilings are oppressively low with exposed support beams. This gym is gritty and tough, the way a boxing club should be.
